Abigail Patton of Palatine, a senior at Palatine High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2020 and awarded a $5,000 Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition over two years. At UIS, she plans to major in pre-nursing.
The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of two years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
At Palatine High School, she is involved in Tri-M, gymnastics and orchestra. She chose UIS because of the nursing program and location.
Following her two years of pre-nursing at UIS, she plans to earn her bachelors of science in nursing (BSN) from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing’s Springfield Regional Campus. After earning her degree, she plans to work as a nurse in either labor and delivery or the emergency room.
All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. To receive $5,000 over two years, students must earn a 21-23 on their ACT or a minimum 1060 SAT score and hold a minimum high school GPA of 3.26 or above.

Kelsie Burrows of Freeburg awarded a $20,000 scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield
Kelsie Burrows of Freeburg, a senior at Freeburg High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2020 and awarded a $20,000 Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition over four years. At UIS, she plans to major in exercise science and play on the Prairie Stars softball team.
The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
At Freeburg High School, she played softball all four years and was a basketball manager her senior year. She was also a member of the National Honor Society.
“I chose UIS because I wanted to be close to home and have the opportunity to play softball,” she said.
Following graduation from UIS, she plans to attend an accredited physical therapy school.
