At UIS, she will major in pre-nursing. </p><p>The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of two years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.</p><p>In high school, she was the boys basketball team manager and part of the band. She was vice president of the Medical Health and Careers Program and Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and was a part of a Red Cross blood donation.</p><p>“I chose UIS because they have a wonderful nursing program,” she said.</p><p>Following her two years of pre-nursing at UIS, she plans to earn her bachelors of science in nursing (BSN) from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing’s Springfield Regional Campus. She eventually hopes to further her education by earning a medical degree in order to become a pediatrician.</p><p>All undergraduate first year students are automatically eligible for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. He’s also part of the school’s musical.</p><p>“The University of Illinois Springfield offers quality education, while maintaining a small-school environment,” he said. “The golf and biology programs will provide the appropriate challenge I have been looking for.”</p><p>Following graduation from UIS, he plans to attend dental school and become a periodontist.</p><p>Capital Scholars Honors Program scholarships are competitive and are based on high school GPA.
