Kaylan Mills, a resident of Oswego, and business major at the University of Illinois Springfield, has been awarded the Marine Bank Scholarship in Business Administration and the James L. Lundquist Memorial Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Mills is pursuing a business degree with a concentration in finance.
“I chose business because I have a very analytic mind. I love working with numbers and understanding why processes succeed or fail,” she said.
Mills credits a high school teacher for inspiring her to seek a business degree. “I was really thankful to have had such a passionate teacher teach me about the world of business,” she said.
Mills is also a member of the UIS Women’s Soccer Team. “I consider myself lucky to get the honor or wearing a University of Illinois Springfield jersey and move this program in the right direction,” she said.
This academic year, Mills had the opportunity to study abroad in Belgium. “I had the time of my life gaining new perspectives about the world, seeing breathtaking sights, meeting amazing people and learning so much about myself in the process,” she said.
She was also recently inducted into the UIS chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honor society.
Upon graduation, she hopes to use her UIS business degree to work in a financial or business analyst role.
“These scholarships not only lighten the burden of paying for college, but give me the opportunity to continue my diligent pursuit of academic success,” said Mills.
The James L. Lundquist Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who meet GPA requirements and have an interest in studying abroad for a semester.
The Marine Bank Scholarship is awarded to a qualified undergraduate in the Business Administration program.
