Ella Snyder, a resident of Maroa and pre-nursing major at the University of Illinois Springfield, has been awarded the Memorial Health System Pre-Nursing Scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year.
Snyder said choosing her career is following in the footsteps of both her mother and step-father, who are nurses.
Snyder also said health care was always at the forefront of her childhood memories, because her brother received a heart transplant at a young age.
“I am constantly being taught lessons in nursing in everyday events,” she said.
Snyder said she chose UIS after touring a number of college nursing programs. “I instantly fell in love,” she said. “The college has an excellent nursing program that is affiliated with UIC and I didn’t have to change locations after two years. It was the perfect college for me to earn a BSN in nursing.”
To apply for the Memorial Health System Pre-Nursing Scholarship, UIS students must be a freshman or sophomore enrolled in the pre-nursing pathway whose intent is to enroll in the UIS College of Nursing and earn a BSN degree.
