Thomas Bumann of Woodhull, a senior at Alwood High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2021 and awarded a $40,000 Capital Scholars Honors Program Scholarship.
The scholarship can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
Bumann plans to major in biology with a pre-medicine focus at UIS and play on the Prairie Stars Golf team.
At Alwood High School, he is part of the golf team, concert band, jazz band, scholastic bowl, math team, Spanish club, National Honor Society, L.I.F.E (Leaders Inspiring Future Excellence) and the student council. He’s also part of the school’s musical.
“The University of Illinois Springfield offers quality education, while maintaining a small-school environment,” he said. “The golf and biology programs will provide the appropriate challenge I have been looking for.”
Following graduation from UIS, he plans to attend dental school and become a periodontist.
Capital Scholars Honors Program scholarships are competitive and are based on high school GPA. UIS is not requiring students to submit ACT/SAT scores for the 2021-22 academic year.
The Honors Program is a selective undergraduate program combining high standards and emphasis on excellence with a small residential college model, enrolling only about 100 first-year students each year.
