Zong Rui Zhu of Pittsfield, a May 2017 graduate of Pittsfield High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield and awarded a $14,000 Lincoln Scholarship for tuition over four years.
The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
He chose UIS because of its location and plans to major in computer science. He would eventually like to work in a technology firm as a programmer.
In high school, he was involved in Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE), math team and the student counsel. He also played on the basketball team.
All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. To receive $14,000 over four years, students must earn a 24 to a 26 on their ACT or a minimum of 1160 SAT and hold a minimum high school GPA of 3.5.

Ana Boza Martin of Spain admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield
Ana Boza Martin of Madrid, Spain, who recently graduated high school from Fomento Fundacion, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for the fall 2017 term.
At UIS, Martin will play on the UIS women’s tennis team and major in biochemistry. In high school, she was a member of a volunteer group and played on the tennis, volleyball and baseball teams.
She says she chose UIS because, “I like the study program, the tennis team and how much they want to improve and work hard in order to achieve their goals.”
Following graduation from UIS, she plans to earn a master’s degree and to find a job that she enjoys.

Daniel Salla of Topeka admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield
At UIS, he will major in psychology. Following graduation, he plans to attend medical school to become a psychiatrist.
He says he chose UIS because “it’s a relatively small campus that's local to where I live and offers the program I was looking for.”
At Midwest Central High School, he was involved in the Environmental Science Club.
