Brandon Tibbs of Havana, a recent graduate of Havana High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for fall semester 2019 and awarded a $14,000 Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition over four years. He plans to major in computer science at UIS.
The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
At Havana High School, he was a member of the cross country team and set up and ran the video board.
Following graduation from UIS, he plans to work in a field related to computer science.
All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. Mackenzie Olson of Oswego admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield
Mackenzie Olson of Oswego, a recent graduate of Oswego High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2019 classes. She plans to major in medical laboratory science.
At Oswego High School, she was a member of the marching band, jazz band, pep band, BIONIC, TALK, HIKE, student council and the National Art Honor Society. She was also a member of the track team.

Zygfried Kurzymski receives a $12,000 scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield

Thomas George of Springfield receives a full-ride scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield
Thomas George of Springfield, a senior at Springfield High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2019 and awarded a Capital Scholars Honors Program Chancellor’s Full-Ride Scholarship. He plans to major in information systems security.
The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
At Springfield High, George is a member of the band, jazz band, choir, theater, Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony and the National Honor Society.
“I chose UIS because I like the academic program in my major and the smaller size of UIS,” he said. “I was awarded both academic and music scholarships and I look forward to participating in the Honors Program.”
