Jocelyn Nordwall of Jacksonville awarded a $7,000 scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield
Jocelyn Nordwall of Jacksonville, a senior at Jacksonville High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2020 and awarded a $7,000 Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition over two years. At UIS, she plans to major in pre-nursing.
The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of two years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
At Jacksonville High School, she was a member of the football cheer, basketball cheer and competition cheer teams. She was also a member of the National English Honor Society and did competitive dance at Stevens School of Dance and Gymnastics.
“I chose UIS because it’s close to home and has a good nursing program,” she said.
Following her two years of pre-nursing at UIS, she plans to earn her bachelors of science in nursing (BSN) from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing’s Springfield Regional Campus. After earning her degree she plans to work as an obstetrics (OB) nurse.
All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. To receive $7,000 over two years, students must earn a 21-23 on their ACT or a minimum 1060 SAT score and hold a minimum high school GPA of 3.76 or above.
