Rachel Cobert of Erie receives a University of Illinois Springfield scholarship

Rachel Cobert, a senior at Erie High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for fall 2016 and awarded a $30,000 Lincoln Scholarship for tuition over 4 years.

Cobert plans to major in biology at UIS with a pre-med focus. She’ll also be playing on the Prairie Stars volleyball team.

“I love the town of Springfield and the campus at UIS. During my visits, I felt right at home, so I am excited to begin my future there,” she said.

In high school, she played volleyball and basketball and was on the track and field team. She was also a class officer, a member of National Honor Society and was on the staff of the school newspaper.

Following graduation from UIS, she plans to become a physical therapist.

All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. To receive $30,000 over four years, students must earn a 27 to 29 on their ACT and hold a GPA of 4.0 or above.

Steven Cowles of Springfield admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield

Steven Cowles of Springfield, a senior at Lutheran High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for the fall 2016 term.

At UIS, he will major in business administration and play on the Prairie Stars men’s soccer team. He played soccer and basketball in high school.

Following graduation from UIS, Cowles says he plans to work in politics or start his own business.

Tyler Hiserote of Peoria receives a University of Illinois Springfield scholarship

Tyler Hiserote, a Peoria resident and senior at Limestone Community High School in Bartonville, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield and awarded a $10,000 Lincoln Scholarship for tuition over 4 years.

At UIS, Hiserote plans to major in economics or business administration starting in fall 2016. He will also run on the UIS men’s track and cross country teams. He chose UIS because of the size of the campus.

“I chose UIS because it wasn't too small or too big,” he said. “It was the perfect size for me. I felt I would not get lost or become just part of the crowd. I was also impressed with the level of degrees and academics available to the students.”

At Limestone Community High School, he ran on the track and cross country teams. Following graduation from UIS, he hopes to find a job in his field.

Brittany Wiser of Carlinville admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield

Brittany Wiser, a senior at Carlinville High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for the fall 2016 term. She plans to major in English at UIS.

At Carlinville High School, she has been involved in yearbook, band, pit band, chorus and the all school musical. She also plays softball and is a member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
