Jalee Braner of Springfield admitted to UIS

Jalee Braner of Springfield, a senior at Lanphier High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for the fall 2017 term.

At Lanphier High School, Braner is involved in cross country, track, choir, the Spirit Club and National Honor Society.

“I am choosing UIS because the professors are really excited about their students’ education and the campus has a family feel,” she said.

Following graduation from UIS, Braner would like to teach in the Springfield District 186 school system. At this moment, she has not chosen a major.

Benjamin Paoletti of Batavia receives UIS Capital Scholars Honors Program Scholarship

Benjamin Paoletti of Batavia, a senior at Batavia Senior High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield and awarded a $38,000 Capital Scholars Honors Program Scholarship for tuition over 4 years.

The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

At UIS, Ben will major in political science.

His future plans include law school and a possible career as lawyer or politician.

Paoletti said he chose UIS because of its location, scholarships and opportunities.

At Batavia Senior High School, Paoletti is involved in YMCA Youth and Government, football, track and field, drama, and Junior Classical League.

The CAP Honors Program is a selective undergraduate program combining high standards and emphasis on excellence with a small residential college model, enrolling only about 100 first-year students each year.

The program brings together intellectually strong students with talented, dedicated faculty to create a unique academic environment within the greater UIS community. Capital Scholar Honors students participate in an interdisciplinary core curriculum designed to prepare students for their major and provide leadership opportunities.

In order to receive a $38,000 Capital Scholars Honors Program Deans Scholarship, the student must earn a 27 to a 29 on their ACT or a minimum of 1280 SAT and hold a minimum high school GPA of 4.0.

Rayna Zirkelbach of Kampsville receives a $13,000 scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield

Rayna Zirkelbach of Kampsville, a senior at Calhoun High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield and awarded a $13,000 Lincoln Scholarship for tuition over four years.

The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

She is an undecided major who chose UIS because “it is a good academic school that is close to home.”

At Calhoun High School, she plays basketball, volleyball and softball.

All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. To receive $13,000 over four years, students must earn a 21 to a 23 on their ACT or a minimum of 1060 SAT and hold a minimum high school GPA of 3.75.

Zoey Pritchett of Springfield receives a UIS Capital Scholars Honors Program Scholarship

Zoey Pritchett of Springfield, a senior at Lanphier High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield and awarded a $24,000 Capital Scholars Honors Program Scholarship for tuition over 4 years.

The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

At UIS, she will major in English. She hopes to become a novel writer following graduation.

“I chose UIS because it’s affordable and close to home,” she said.

At Lanphier High School, Pritchett is president of the German club, secretary of the drama club and a member of the art and John Marshall clubs. She also plays in the marching band.
