Karly Schmitz of Meredosia receives a University of Illinois Springfield scholarship

Karly Schmitz of Meredosia, a senior at Meredosia-Chambersburg High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for fall 2017. She plans to major in nursing and will receive a $4,000 per academic year Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition while attending UIS.

Schmitz will also receive the Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver, if she maintains academic requirements.

At Meredosia-Chambersburg High School, Schmitz played basketball for three years, cheered for one year, ran track for four years and played volleyball for four years. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE).

The Lincoln Merit Scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. To receive $4,000 per academic year, students must earn a 24 to a 26 on their ACT or a minimum of 1160 SAT and hold a minimum high school GPA of 3.75.
