Steven Albers of Jacksonville receives a $14,000 scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield

Steven Albers of Jacksonville, a senior at Jacksonville High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield and awarded a $14,000 Lincoln Scholarship for tuition over four years.

The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

At UIS, he plans to major in education or business administration. He will also play on the UIS Prairie Stars men’s soccer team.

“I chose UIS to continue my education because I liked the size of the school and the distance from my home,” said Albers. “I wanted to play soccer in college, and after practicing with the team, I knew this was where I wanted to be.”

At Jacksonville High School, Albers plays soccer, basketball and football. He is a member of the student government and was voted senior class president. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Science Club.

All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. To receive $14,000 over four years, students must earn a 24 to a 26 on their ACT or a minimum of 1160 SAT and hold a minimum high school GPA of 3.5.
