Gabrielle Bingaman of Blue Mound awarded a $4,000 scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield

Gabrielle Bingaman of Blue Mound, a senior at Meridian High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2021 and awarded a $4,000 Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition over two years. At UIS, she will major in pre-nursing.

The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of two years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

At Meridian High School, she is part of the track team and plays basketball. She is a member of FCS, SADD, publications team, drama club and is the nursery coordinator.

“I'm choosing UIS because I want to be able to come home on weekends to see my family and best friend (dog) Judith,” she said. “I also love being able to come home every Sunday to attend church with my family.”

Following her two years of pre-nursing at UIS, she plans to earn her bachelors of science in nursing (BSN) from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing’s Springfield Regional Campus. She wants to work as a neonatal nurse following graduation.

All undergraduate first year students are automatically eligible for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. These scholarships are automatically applied upon admission and are based solely on high school GPA. In order to receive $4,000 over two years, the student must have an unweighted GPA of 3.20-3.39. UIS is not requiring students to submit ACT/SAT scores for the 2021-24 academic years.
