Emma Melton of Morrison receives a $14,000 scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield

Emma Melton of Morrison, a senior at Morrison Community High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield and awarded a $14,000 Lincoln Scholarship for tuition over four years.

The scholarship is awarded based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

At UIS, she plans to major in biology and play for the UIS Softball team.

“UIS offers all the things I am looking for in a school: location, size, major offered, and softball program. All will allow me to success in my goals with a career and softball activities,” she said.

At Morrison Community High School, she plays softball and basketball. She is a member of the Key Club, Student Council, National Honor Society and a leader for Building Lasting Impressions that Never Die (BLIND). She was on the homecoming court and the high honor roll.

All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. To receive $14,000 over four years, students must earn a 21 to a 23 on their ACT or a minimum of 1060 SAT and hold a minimum high school GPA of 4.0.
