Tyler Hiserote of Peoria receives a University of Illinois Springfield scholarship

Tyler Hiserote, a Peoria resident and senior at Limestone Community High School in Bartonville, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield and awarded a $10,000 Lincoln Scholarship for tuition over 4 years.

At UIS, Hiserote plans to major in economics or business administration starting in fall 2016. He will also run on the UIS men’s track and cross country teams. He chose UIS because of the size of the campus.

“I chose UIS because it wasn't too small or too big,” he said. “It was the perfect size for me. I felt I would not get lost or become just part of the crowd. I was also impressed with the level of degrees and academics available to the students.”

At Limestone Community High School, he ran on the track and cross country teams. Following graduation from UIS, he hopes to find a job in his field.

All incoming UIS freshmen are eligible to apply for Lincoln Merit Scholarships. The amount awarded is based upon the incoming student’s ACT or SAT score. In order to receive $10,000 over four years, students must earn a 21 on their ACT and hold a 3.0 GPA.
