Ethan Howard of Prophetstown awarded a University of Illinois Springfield scholarship

Ethan Howard, a resident of Prophetstown and business administration major at the University of Illinois Springfield, has been awarded the Staley Family Athletic Scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Howard, a UIS baseball player, transferred to UIS from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he was recruited to play baseball.

“Baseball at UIS has been one of the most positive experiences I could have hoped for in college,” he said.

Howard said he chose business administration because UIS had an excellent business program coupled with the potential for the degree. He said he plans to explore the field with different internship opportunities.

“I enjoy talking and working with others,” said Howard who hopes to own and manage his own business someday.

The Staley Family Athletic Scholarship is chosen by the UIS Director of Athletics.

To qualify, students must be a varsity athlete with a demonstrated financial nee
d, meeting academic requirements.
